Public art seems to be everywhere in Florence.
I love the idea of the Loggia dei Lanzi, which is like an open air museum. |
There was also plenty of unauthorized art and I had fun collecting it.
Maybe it was the tourist version Pokemon Go.
We also visited Clet's studio and learned a bit more about his work. According to information provided there he is
"an Italian artist with Breton origins... The artist's main purpose is to actively claw back public spaces. Road signs, symbol of undisputed authority, signifying obligations, duty and limitations, are modified in order to contradict the strict conception of legality as an absolute religion."I also searched for Blub works, which are also called, 'Art Knows How To Swim,' (L’arte Sa Nuotare).
This was outside Clet's studio. |
I would encourage you to poke around the web for more images and information.
These are awesome! I like the sign art a lot. I'm a big supporter that not all public art needs to be approved by a committee. Or maybe that for every square foot of advertising permitted, that same amount (or double!) of art should be allowed.
