Out and About

Even though we had to wake the teenager up at noon we still got in a day's worth of adventures.

Thanks to a recommendation from my older sister we had our best meal yet.
It helped that we sat next to and Englishman who helped us with the menu.

We found this public playground in a courtyard.

My favorite part was examining the contents of the porches.

The funicular ride up Montjuic was included in the cost of our metro ticket.

At the top we decided to get the art pass, which is good for six museums over the course of the year. I imagine we'll have no problem using it.  Our first visit was to the The Fundació Joan Miró.

I am sorry there is no person in the picture to help you understand the scale of this tapestry,
which is about two stories high (maybe 40 feet).  I did like some smaller pieces, too.

The Sun, The Moon and One Star in the foreground
and Barcelona in the background.

We were going to go to the botanical garden but instead explored Los Jardins de Laribal
and then walked down to the metro stop,

which was more attractive than some others.
We did a little shopping for breakfast and dinner and at Tiger (the Danish version of the 99c store).

There are always architectural gems to discover while walking around.
Enough for one day!  TIme to pack up for moving day tomorrow!

Doors

Door knobs and handles in the middle of the door.

Not something I remember seeing before.

Safe and Sound

Despite the fact that our flight was not scheduled to depart until 10:30p on Sunday night we were able to board and leave as expected.  So many cell phones were getting alert messages about an active shooter and about the lack of an active shooter, we knew something was unusual.

It was not until I read the newspaper coverage the next day that I realized how lucky we were. People ran onto the tarmac, abandoned luggage, and almost 300 flights were delayed.  They even sent twelve flights to ONT!

We had an uneventful change in Oslo.
And here we are at our temporary apartment for a couple days.  Some people got motion sickness, some people didn't sleep, and some people maybe had too much coffee, but here we (and ALL of our luggage) are!  We had a helpful driver, who included a history lesson with the drive.

Time to sleep.

Adapting to local culture

Did you know that if you look at the Claremont Unified School District website you can see the calendar for the 2017-2018 academic year?  For your information, the first day of school is August 30, 2017.

Six months ago I asked the admissions counselor when the first day of school would be for A.  I received the following response.  "The first day of School in September has not been set because the official dates have not been released yet by the Education Dept."

It seems like this adventure will help me work toward my goal of being more of a go-with-the-flow type person!
